Dogrel is the ferocious 2019 debut from Fontaines D.C., a record that reintroduced post-punk with a Dublin snarl and a poet’s heart. It is restless, romantic, and defiantly alive.

Released on Partisan Records, the album captures a young band documenting their city with both grit and reverence. Frontman Grian Chatten delivers lyrics like street-corner manifestos, sketching late-night wanderers and working-class dreamers with unfiltered clarity. There is a literary bent here, but it never feels precious. Instead, Dogrel moves with the urgency of lived experience.

Opening salvo “Big” is all sharp edges and swagger, a statement of intent that barrels forward on wiry guitars and pounding drums. “Boys In The Better Land” pairs chant-along hooks with a sly critique of aspiration and escape, while “Too Real” spirals into anxious repetition that feels thrillingly unhinged. Then there is “Roy’s Tune,” a surprisingly tender comedown that reveals the band’s melodic core beneath the bravado.

Pressed to vinyl, Dogrel thrives in analog form, its jagged textures and cavernous reverb given room to breathe. For collectors, it stands as the document of a band at ignition point - hungry, literate, and ready to turn small club stages into something mythic.
