This sophomore gem from Lillie West - aka Lala Lala - drops twelve tracks of shimmering indie grit, released on September 28, 2018 via Hardly Art. It’s the record she wrote while wrestling paranoia, addiction, and grief and somehow turned it into pure sonic catharsis.
Right off the bat, “Destroyer” shreds with a grungy rush, setting the tone. Then there’s the bold “Water Over Sex,” where she laments her wild past while dancing toward sobriety. “I Get Cut” slashes in with unfiltered intensity, and “Dove”, sweet yet devastating, tackles loss with poetic tenderness. And let’s not forget the sax-soaked closer “See You at Home,” the album's ironic kiss-off that says “I release you” with sass and finality.
Recorded with Emily Kempf (bass/vox), Ben Leach (drums), and guest sax by Sen Morimoto, The Lamb blends post‑punk drive with dream‑pop synths and even a touch of saxophone drama. Lillie’s lyrics cut deep (“When You Die” confronts loss head-on), yet the music balances that darkness with melodies that lift you right back out. It’s the kind of record that feels like therapy, except way more fun and with way better hooks.
In short: emotionally naked, unapologetically raw, and undeniably catchy - The Lamb is indie rock for the soul’s scrappy survivors.
