Nomeansno’s Wrong isn’t just an album, it’s a seismic event in punk history. Originally released in 1989 on Alternative Tentacles, this beloved classic is now back on striking red vinyl, remastered from the original all-analog master by George Horn, John Wright, and none other than Jello Biafra himself.

A heady cocktail of hardcore punk ferocity, jagged time signatures, and surprisingly complex arrangements, Wrong is the album that cemented Nomeansno’s reputation as pioneers of what would later be dubbed “math rock.” Tracks like The Tower and Brainless Wonder are relentless and razor-sharp, while Rags and Bones and Two Lips, Two Lungs and One Tongue prove the band could groove and snarl in equal measure.

Formed in 1979 by brothers John and Rob Wright, later joined by guitarist Andy Kerr, Nomeansno created a sound that felt like punk had been sent to grad school,  aggressive, yes, but also witty, inventive, and weirdly elegant. It’s no wonder Wrong is still hailed as their definitive statement and was even crowned the Canadian Polaris Heritage Prize winner in 2021.

This reissue isn’t just a nostalgia trip, it’s a reminder of how vital and boundary-pushing Nomeansno truly were. Drop the needle, crank it up, and let Wrong prove (again) why it’s their “most popular album by a country mile.”
