Three decades on, Sigh’s Infidel Art still howls with unholy grandeur - now reborn for its 30th Anniversary on limited light blue marble vinyl.
Originally unleashed in 1995, this second studio album marked a bold evolution for the Japanese black metal visionaries. With core members Mirai Kawashima, Shinichi Ishikawa, and Satoshi Fujinami locked in, Sigh expanded far beyond the raw ferocity of their debut, weaving symphonic flourishes and classical motifs into their frostbitten foundation. The result is black metal that feels theatrical, arcane, and defiantly imaginative.
Epic cuts like Zombie Terror and Izuna embody that balance - blistering tremolo riffs and blast beats collide with regal keyboard passages and eerie atmospherics. On The Last Elegy, the band drifts into morbidly majestic territory, layering choral textures over relentless percussion. It is extreme music with a scholar’s ear for composition, steeped in mysticism yet grounded in old school metallic bite.
This 30th Anniversary edition arrives via Peaceville with a new master by Patrick Engel, sourced from the original DAT, sharpening every sinister detail. An additional insert featuring a new interview with Mirai Kawashima deepens the historical lens. Pressed on striking blue marble vinyl, Infidel Art stands as both a landmark of Eastern atmospheric black metal and a prized artifact for collectors who crave the genre’s more visionary edge.
