Metallica’s St. Anger was released on June 5, 2003, through Elektra Records. Produced by Bob Rock and the band, the album departed from Metallica’s signature sound, featuring raw production, down-tuned guitars, and the absence of guitar solos. Featuring tracks include "Frantic," "Some Kind of Monster," "The Unnamed Feeling," and the title track, "St. Anger". Lead Singer James Hetfield stated that the album was written with "a lot of passion" and that it contained "two years of condensed emotion" and "a lot of personal changes, struggles, epiphanies". The cover art, designed by Matt Mahurin, depicts a clenched orange fist wrapped in a rope, symbolizing frustration, anger, and internal struggle.
